The Plastics and Pollution Magazine is the second in the Cornwall College Student Take Over series. The Zine focuses on the environmental impact of our clothes. Infographics, a potted history of plastic fabrics and what to check for on the label. Recommended actions you can take as an individual and with others to reduce any harmful impact.
Read about 3 pioneering brands tackling the issues: Mr Hideous, Sea Monsters and Wyatt and Jack. Great guest articles are by Sustainable Deeds founder, Didi Aben, Harry Dennis of Waterhaul Co, Miriam Leyshon, a first year student at the University of Exeter and Yaa Bekoe of Nao Naï.
Special thanks to those who helped to make this Zine happen
Nearly 50 young people at Cornwall College took part in the Student Take Over of the Issue 02 series of Ethical Rebel. These Zines tackle the issues of:
02A = slavery (#whomademyclothes magazine)
02B = pollution
02C = textile waste
Award winning photographer Sarah Brittain-Edwards provided the students with a workshop to help them think creatively about the photoshoot. The students did all the make up and hair, modelled for us and took the photos for our brand features and covers.
We crowdfunded £1,123 to publish and donate copies of this zine to student libraries. Many thanks to our very generous donors on Crowdfunder, corporate sponsors – Mannakin, A Story In T Shirts and Sewing & Design Studio – as well as Cornwall College/Cultivator’s Creative Futures and Cornwall Council’s Creative Cornwall Calling.
