They dye the t shirts in a zero-discharge dyehouse and recycle all the water in a closed-loop system. The crew of the schooner contract cholera in the story. Outbreaks of cholera are still a deadly threat, especially in areas affected by war or natural disasters. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), aka Doctors Without Borders, contain these outbreaks of cholera in temporary mediacl camps in remote areas. As a result they rely on maps for the remote areas they visit which volunteers create for them from satellite images.
